Demo glitches after performing skipping functions should go away (thinking of animation glitches). Instant rewind and fast forward would be lovely. Demos have gotten slightly better, but the UX needs to improve massively. Improved sound design is always an underrated plus.īetter demo viewing and editing capabilities. Seeing your own shadow could be rad too and likely easier to implement in source 2. This would be really good for events/teams/sponsorship opportunities when there is a more brand safe alternative in Valorant at the moment. I’d expect this to be a good time for Valve to rebrand a couple of unsafe brand terms like Ts and CTs. They’d be required to maintain the silhouette of the weapon, but content creators can take their ideas further with the polygons of the gun rather than just through shader trickery and texture editing.

REDDIT SOURCE 2 UPDATE

What’s a huge update without a new purchasable in-game item as well? This would be a solid jumping off point for gun model variants or other types of weapon cosmetics other than just skins or stickers. Mappers like FMPONE have been building Alyx maps for a bit to get used to the tools and by most accounts they’re HUGE improvements to productivity and creativity as compared to Hammer which originally released pre-2000 iirc. As a bonus: taking advantage of DirectStorage APIs for ridiculously fast loading times would be super cool.Ĭontent creation tools are better and go deeper.

Source 2 does well with lower end specs too, so I’d expect to see FPS/latency improvements on all types of PC hardware. A large part of this is due to using a more modern graphics API like DirectX 11/12 or Vulkan. It’s honestly impressive how well Source 2 games like Dota and HL:A perform. (Has to do with alpha sorting iirc between mollies, nades, smoke)Īs to performance. I’d like expect glitches like the smoke glitch to go away. For instance, throwing a smoke at someone and the nade glitching, making a bunch of sound and fucking up your movement could potentially go away. I’d expect all physics to be way smoother and less glitchy. Theoretically they’d want to keep the same throwing trajectories for lineups but ideally they’d become the same lineups between 128 vs 64 tick servers which would be huge. Everything from player movement to how bases are thrown, land and interact with players would be changed. I'm still skeptical we'll actually see a Source 2 update, too many empty fridges have worn me down, but it would be absolutely fantastic news for the game. The game seems pretty done within the limits of Source. Last was the deagle body shot discussion - and even that was contentious.

REDDIT SOURCE 2 UPGRADE

More to the point, even if the initial upgrade to Source 2 comes with fault, which it will, Valve - for all the hate it gets - does tend to iron out gameplay related issues to the finer points where it's been months now since I've seen any gameplay complaint or suggestion get significant traction here. It basically means Valve will offer continued and even renewed support for the game (insert joke about how Valve doesn't care). However, an actual Source 2 update will be the greatest news for this game since the release of CSGO itself. This always happens, especially when making significant changes to a game that's over 20 years old. I'd like to say a 3kliks video, but not sure.Įither way, some things will change and no matter how tiny a subset of the community will bitch about it. At this point however I've seen too many definitions floating around here especially what constitutes 'the engine' as it used to just mean the graphical renderer - but I've seen it include physics (which is usually a separate engine altogether), sound, netcode and even menu interface.Īlledgedly - I'm no mapper - all revamped maps (which would be all in the pool except for Mirage and Overpass) have been made to be compatible with Source 2 and ported back to Source, but I forgot where I read/saw this.

I can imagine physics based aspects of gameplay could change if a Source 2 update comes with an updated physics engine by definition, in which case grenades might have to be relearned or perhaps even rediscovered. I doubt a lot would change gameplay wise as an updated engine would primarily focus on the graphical side.
